I thought that most of the people here totally supported the Police. Shouldn't we leave it to the people of that town to decide. After all that was the excuse from those who defended the actions of the Police in the Watertown area when they stormed the streets in armored cars and machine guns. The answer we got when questioning this was an overwhelming (from people here on DU) shout that the People of Boston turned out to cheer the Police. We were told, if we weren't there, we had no right to comment on the tactics the police used. http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022747864
4. Why are the only objections to that search coming from people who are not even from the area?
5. Where is even one resident of that area or neighborhood raising a stink about that search?

Now, we're being told the same thing regarding the despicable behavior of Anthony Weiner. http://www.democraticunderground.com/10023328643
So here is my point friends. Either you have principles, and your ideals are based upon those principles, or you have inconsistencies from issue to issue and are mocked by the rest as having a hypocritical sense of right and wrong. We demand that the Government do something to fix what is wrong in Florida, while demanding that everyone butt out of what happened in Boston/Watertown. We demand that everyone get together and force this ass of a Police Chief out of his job, while demanding on the same day that the People of New York get to decide what happens with Anthony Weiner.
Principles, applied fairly, to every incident is the only way to go. It is principle over party, core principles applied to every situation. Right is never wrong, and wrong is never right this way. We avoid the image of hypocrisy, and we are a better people, and a better party because of it. Or we can keep doing what we are, flitting from one side of an issue, arguing that the locals should decide (Watertown) and then flit to the other side of the same issue demanding that people take action to stop the locals (Florida).
Your principles must be sound, and applied equally. Otherwise we are always going to be driving our supporters away, and that is what we can't do if we want to win elections, and get a majority of the people behind us. So decide, first for yourselves, and then argue your position here. Is principle going to be a driving force in our party, or are we going to continue flitting from issue to incident and deciding on a case by case basis what our beliefs are this week?
