Weiner's a retread. He's been throught the circuit before. And he's just running for office. He's an unpleasant reminder of the double standard we often have. His first scandal came on the heels of the scandal in which underage male Congressional pages who, as it turns out, were all over the age of 18 and no longer pages were hit on and bedded by a Florida (R). It was hard to be kind to Weiner and his publicized wiener. Afterwards, both wiener and the Weiner attached thereto should have kept a low profile instead of raising their ugly heads.
Filner's new. He's a virgin when it comes to sexual harrassment scandals. He's already in office, in a largely (R) city. For him to step down might mean having an (R) take over. Better to minimize the scandal and hope the sexual harrasser fades from the public view than to drag him and his groping ways through the mire.
