Mainstreaming equality, civil rights, gay rights, womens rights, workers rights, defense of middle class policies, infrastructure, safety nets, etc. makes the rightwing look even more batshit crazy for being so firmly against them. By being the new center it makes things like single payer not seem so "radical" for any candidate on the left.
