14. So... claims of racial slurs are OK, but potentially exonerating information is not...

Because it might hinder prosecution.

My "right" to know comes from living in a open democracy with a supposedly fair legal system. The State is attempting to imprison a man for the rest of his life, material facts about the case shouldn't be kept secret.
