(6,921 posts)32. Public Education has been broken for a while
and no one seems to have a good idea how to fix it. I didn't know that the Feds cut funding with Race to the top, but I'm not surprised. They've never funded special ed. to the extent they promised.
In NY, most funds for education come from state aid and local property taxes. The state restricts property tax increases to basically CPI. It's tough to figure out who to vote for at the state level if education is your main issue.
