Creators of short film about Snowden defy criticism [View all]
A short film about NSA leaker Edward Snowden made by some Hong Kong directors is getting lots of attention on and off Youtube. The people behind the work have come forward to defend it amid strong criticism, from production quality to acting.
Billed by many media outlets as the world’s first Edward Snowden movie that beats Hollywood to the draw, "Verax" has already gained more than 246,000 views on YouTube.
The five-minute film, filled with spectacular views of Hong Kong and melodramatic music, features Andrew Cromeek, an American school teacher in Hong Kong with an uncanny resemblance to the U.S. National Security Agency leaker.
While the film first gained much popularity, having been released just two days after Snowden left Hong Kong for Moscow, praise has slowly given way to criticism. Many viewers have berated the four directors, Jeff Floro, Edwin Lee, Shawn Tse and Marcus Tsui, for amateur direction and bad casting.
