When my son's first report card came back with lower marks, we went to the teacher and asked, "What can we do with him at home so he gets better?" That question totally floored the teacher. Needless to say his last report card of the year had mostly top marks.

I guess my family is still stuck in the 1960's when it comes to responsibility in school.
