9. Verizon refused to activate old non GPS motorola star tac phones years ago

making it sound like it was a regulation, when it really wasnt

if you already had a non gps star tac activated, you could keep it until it konked out. but if you had a spare, you couldnt activate it

it's something only those who avoid forced upgrades would ever notice

the reason being claimed, that it was necessary for 911 location. yet, in an emergency, any phone is better than none, and NOBODY is required to carry a phone at all

i smelled a rat then, a combination of planned obsolecense and cooperation with privacy intrusion, that they were forcing their customers to carry phones that tracked them like a duck

(non gps phones leave a trail of tower areas visited, gps far more specific)

everything snowden has said confirmed the suspicions i had back then, probably 2003-2006
