In Manhattan they're discovering the joys of the $180 bird poop facial [View all]

For most folks, a splatter of bird poop on the face is undesirable. But that doody from the skies is probably not emanating from the back end of an Asian nightingale. If it were, it'd be a terrific freebie, at least for patrons of Shizuka New York skin care salon. They're paying $180 to have their faces slathered with nightingale crap, a traditional Japanese treatment called a geisha facial. An enzyme in the droppings reportedly keeps the skin soft and smooth, a practice favored by actors and geishas in Japan for some 400 years. It's mixed with rice bran, which is (thankfully) the dominant smell. It works, according to Manhattan dermatologist Dr. Michele Green. "I don't think it's any different than, say, an apricot scrub or a mask that you could buy in a local pharmacy," she said. We’ll take the scrub, thanks. Source
