(154 posts)Job growth is primarily in the low-paying service sector, and Obama so far is not leading on the minimum wage issue. He paid lip service in 2010, saying he'd work to raise it above $11/hr in 2011 (nada). Then in January of this year, more lip service, and astonishingly, only suggesting $9 / hr.
So our middle class' earnings, in Real Dollars, continue to shrink; and about the only thing growing the GDP is population and inflation. No real policies advanced which do anything other than create some jobs, for a time (until the spending ends).
The cause of the problem, IMO, is Obama has surrounded himself with Capitalists, i.e. Geithner and others like him. So the emphasis remains focused on income from Capital, which is having a hey-day, and not income from Labor, which continues a dangerous downward trend. I wish Obama would at least do what Clinton did: listen to folks like Reich and Stieglitz, at least half the time.
