(22,474 posts)making low wages still seem to enjoy a lot of things that one would consider as being "prosperous". There would not be so many nail places if the average woman and man weren't getting manicures and pedicures on a regular basis. Everyone has a fancy assed cell phone and a computer and hair extensions and new cars are all over the road. Disney land is still packed even though it is over $100 to get into one theme park and God knows how much if you want to eat. We take our pets to the vet now, when I was a kid we never had that expense because you just never took your dog to the vet. Most people have at least basic cable and internet.
I don't live on that much money but for the life of me I never feel poor! I'm not stupid with my money like I see some people are. I always try to get the best deal for everything. The people that I know that are really poor are spending their money on drugs, alcohol, and gambling. And I am not saying they are the only poor, just the only ones I see.
That is not to say that I think our wages are OK. Far from it. And I am glad there is a growing discussion about wages now.
This place is really starting to get me down. I post something positive about our president and get wacked up side the head by 30 people! At least I'm glad I'm not that negative.
