In reply to the discussion: Media Blackout of PA. Town Held Hostage By Militia & police chief [View all]pmorlan1
(2,096 posts)I saw the pathetic video of this police chief firing his guns while he said vile things about Democrats and Liberals. I also read a news piece where some of the townspeople claimed they were blocked from entering the meeting where the police chief was eventually suspended by the town council (some of the people opposed to the chief were in the meeting). Some of the people interviewed said they were afraid of him and his friends because of their guns.
Yesterday on Facebook I saw a request to sign a petition to have Obama federalize the National Guard to come and disarm the police chief and his militia friends.
I think the petition is an extreme overreaction to what little we know about this incident so I agree we need more media coverage before things get out of hand. Just because this guy is a jerk and some people are afraid of him and his friends because of their guns doesn't mean he's done anything illegal. Instead of calling in the National Guard I think people should have much more information to see if he's done anything illegal and if so, see if all legal remedies have been exhausted.
If I was living in that town and this man was truly out of control I'd file a complaint with the State police and the governor and actually give them time to investigate. This just happened recently and there couldn't possibly have been enough time to complete an investigation. The article I read said that the State police actually had helicopters hovering over the meeting so they evidently aren't totally ignoring the issue.
