The percentage would be even higher if not for conservative policies that have cut aid to mass transit, causing fares to skyrocket, and service to be slashed.

Insurance is also higher for the under 18's -- but they will give some kind of break

It's harder to get a license now. I didn't need a birth certificate to get mine

My daughter is 20, has a license but hasn't driven much at all since getting her license.

A day or so ago there was a pbs news story about driverless cars, all tested and ready to go..

My daughter is almost 19 and doesn't have one yet. She rides public transportation.
