(17,621 posts)Is the way starvation wages erode the American work ethic, still one of our greatest assets even after three decades of work being devalued and workers treated as disposable. But where the young are concerned, the jig is up. They know that employers don't care, and that any job they are likely to get will be low-wage and not last long. They have no incentive to care about their jobs beyond a (skimpy) paycheck. That paycheck doesn't cover the bills and offers no stability for the future anyway. They went to college and have nothing to show for it but a job at Starbucks (maybe) and a pile of student loan debt. Those STEM jobs they worked so hard to get qualified for? They went to H1B visa holders from India who will work for next to nothing. They've been the victim of a monstrous lie. Work hard, and you'll be rewarded? Yeah, right -- tell me another one. And we older ones are on the same boat; many of us just don't want to admit it yet.
