(82,383 posts)Loving v. Virginia overturned a law prohibiting certain marriages.
The equivalent then is a state making a law prohibiting gay marriage - some state will be dumb enough to do it.
In this case, it is more likely to get to the SCOTUS as a case about red states not giving full faith and credit to gay marriages in states allowing it.
It is not a civil rights issue until someone attacks some state law about it.
The federal government is now recognizing gay marriages for immigration purposes:

Next will be seeing if tax returns can be filed as married. I would imagine that won't be difficult to get through if they'll do it for immigrants.
