Her point wasn't about a ridiculously expensive handbag. It was about a sales person's assumption that an overweight black woman can't afford to even be looking at an expensive handbag. The issue wasn't the bag, it was the apparent racism. So, no, the handbag and Oprah's purchasing preferences are still irrelevant. This incident is relevant only to the extent that it revealed what in her view, at least initially, was the racism revealed by the sales person's actions.
