(39,215 posts)off on others. When I was in school back in the 40-50s religion was in the churches and the public schools were teaching other secular subjects. It worked very well that way. Only once was this not true - the day Joseph McCarthy died my 3rd grade teacher made the class pray for his dead soul. Since my religion does not baptize or pray for the dead this incident convinced me that no religion belonged in the public school system.
Only a bunch of fools would think that religion should be in a public setting where not only are most Christian religions different from each other but they are just one of the many religions of the world and there are also many people (such as atheists) who do not want to belong to any religion. Freedom of religion includes the right not to belong to a religion.
