For anyone who is not familiar with this area, it is like the downtown area of SS, also used as a community gathering place for anything. It has been used as a location for political activity, protests, speeches, etc. but not violence. I haven't seen armed guards at the theater, but I have seen folks distributing materials for various causes outside.
And yes it is one of the most diverse cities on God's green earth: race, income, religion, age, etc. Everyone from everywhere is welcome in Silver Spring, MD. I stood in line all morning for early voting last fall and most everyone in line seemed to be liberal. I moved here 2 years ago because it seemed like a good balance between the yuppies of Bethesda and the hippies in Takoma Park.

Yep. It was great. Not a very diverse crowd, but that was o.k. The audience laughed, cried, cheered.
