A good samaritan’s rescue turned into a brush with celebrity after the person he helped out of a burning car on Monday turned out to be comedy legend Dick Van Dyke.
USA Today reported on Tuesday that motorist Jason Pennington pulled over after spotting a Jaguar ablaze along the 101 freeway in Calabasas, California, discovering Van Dyke inside and pulling him to safety.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but according to the Los Angeles Times, Van Dyke’s wife, Arlene, confirmed online that he emerged unscathed by posting video of him talking to California Highway Patrol officers.
Van Dyke later made light of the incident on Twitter, posting a picture of the vehicle’s charred remains and writing, “Used Jag for sale real cheap.”
