It is you who has the question, it is you who should ask it. There is no presumption in asking. I note you did not bother to mention if your friend has started to use a name fitting to their correct gender, that is if a person changes their name you can easily assume that all the accessories such as pronouns follow along.
So I repeat, why not simply ask the question? It is your question to ask.
