I can't help thinking that this poor child is doomed: first his mother's pit bull; then, possibly his mother's "friends" in the apartment. In short, his whole environment...

I may be flamed for this, but I still believe that so much hinges on starting life with protective, loving PARENTS (plural!). And barring that or along with that, a nurturing larger environment -- the so-called village of extended family, neighborhood, community, country. For too many children, both the parents and/or village are absent in presence and in action. And for this reason, we see more and more senseless violence and tragedies like this; and for this reason, this country is rotting from within. And no amount of mighty weaponry will save it.
