Authoritarian followers know they're living in a bullshit world. They want to live in the bullshit world because they cannot deal with reality. Many of them are also remarkably uncreative, hence they need an authoritarian leader like Robertson to make up their bullshit for them so they have something to think and say.

It's OK that it doesn't make any sense. They don't care.

It's OK that it defies all laws of science and principals of medicine. They don't care.

As long as it's something, anything to reinforce their weird warped world, it's exactly what they want and they'll pay good money to get it.
