Had the same problem with an extended family member who shot his mouth off all the time and brought up politics when no one else wanted to talk about it---and he was farther to the right than Rush Limbaugh.
I finally told hm "I disagree" one Thanksgiving and he exploded, acted like a two-year-old who can't have his lollypop. He and I no longer speak and I'm better off for that----simply because I disagreed with him on something that HE brought up.
If it ever comes up, just tell him or anyone else "if you're going to shoot your mouth off in an email, you have no right to complain if someone hits the reply button."
