7. Union wages and benefits converted the middle class into

Republicans. Look at who votes Republican, older white people in the suburbs. The younger generation just doesn't want to fight. I saw it myself in several strikes, we would go out on strike and the younger guys would want to return to work after they missed one paycheck.
