Signatures collected for Alaska wage initiative [View all]

JUNEAU, ALASKA — Sponsors of an initiative to raise the minimum wage in Alaska said they have collected more than a third of the signatures required to qualify the measure for the ballot.

Petition organizers have gathered at least 12,000 signatures, the Juneau Empire (http://is.gd/IM1I59) reported Sunday.

Sponsors have until June to gather the 31,169 signatures required. But they want to deliver the signatures by January so the initiative will appear on the 2014 ballot.

The measure is sponsored by former Alaska labor commissioners Ed Flanagan, Tom Cashen and Jim Sampson.
