So the actual Dem Party had better get busy finding/funding/campaigning-for legitimate Dem contenders, starting last year. I don't envy you Dems.
Here in Canada we've been following in lockstep, and to our shame we're now led by Stephen Harper, who is every neocon's servant. On the liberal side -- it's almost like when the US chose Obama to lead the Dems, but I think we have a bit more information than the Dems did when they picked Obama. The Canadian Liberal Party is led by Justin Trudeau, who for a lark recently admitted that yes, he's smoked BC Bud (tm), not just generically "in the far past" but recently, even after he was elected to represent his riding.
IMO Pierre was a great leader and Justin appears to be a chip off the same block.
If you haven't seen this, you should. Here's a vid of Justin Trudeau in the boxing ring with Patrick Brazeau, a conservative rep. Justin had challenged the entire Conservative bench to produce a boxer, for a boxing event the proceeds to go to charity. Patrick Brazeau, a second-degree black belt in karate, took up Trudeau's challenge. Imagine this in the US... hehe
