(32,324 posts)And of course, they' re heavily tied into the newspapers and TV stations, so the causal listener or viewer thinks this is the best thing since sliced bread.
The defenders for the stadium will say all sorts of things, like, "Consider how many jobs will be created." But many local businesses could be hurt by having to compete with the stadium, as it sets up restaurants and small food outlets - and often there are no laws for a stadium owner to follow. And who on earth wouldn't create a bunch of jobs if given the money to do so?
Example, just this week, it was revealed that the San Francisco Giants team paid $544,715 in back wages and recovery monies to liquidated employees. Hard working stadium employees were not even being paid minimum wages, and many workers were not paid overtime and then were fired if they complained....
