During Vietnam,we had a Democratic Governor in Wisconsin who finally said he would not let anyone opposed to the war be arrested if they didn't report on the day they were drafted.
His conduct was modeled on the example shown by Martin Luther King, Jr, and Robert Kennedy.
There are two types of Democrats now on DU - those of the older generation, who remain true to the vision of FDR, of John F Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, MLK, Eugene McCarthy. And who don't want us to be Republican lite. And those who grew up under George Dubya and don't understand that once there was a huge philosophical dividing line between the two parties regarding war. And regarding poverty.
Hell's Bells, Eisenhower demonstrated more courage in the projects that he got underway during his Administrtion than the current President. He saw to it that Congress was informed that there HAD TO BE programs that enabled the nation to build a national highway system. He saw to it that Congress was informed that there were community hospitals, and community colleges. With so many people working on so many projects, there was almost no unemployment.
With the money households had at their disposal, people bought homes and new cars.
The current President handed the government over to the Biggest of The Bankers and Financial Firms almost within the first sixty days of being in office. And he put our country's food supply into the hands of Monsanto. All thsi wa done through hsi appointments. Of coursse, for the DU'ers who are living on their investments, this is all peachy keen.
