97. I knew an old salt who used to say (because they'd threatened to do away with the

beards for some time before they finally lowered the boom), "I'll get rid of my WIFE before I get rid of my BEARD!!!" He said it so much people started telling him to STFU, particularly since his wife was a real nice lady who put up with a lot of loudmouthed crap from the guy.

I ran into the guy several years later in an airport in Japan--didn't recognize him. I figured out why he had the beard, too--poor thing had no chin to speak of!

I couldn't resist, so I asked him if he heard from his wife occasionally, since he'd surely gotten rid of her by now! I had to remind him of his pronouncements about how he'd get rid of her, first...!

Seriously, if she married him with the beard, if she was the superficial type, she would have had something to complain about--he went from "entirely acceptable features" to "Eh...ewww...geeky" with a few swipes of the razor! Also, it was like a real Samson tale, too--all of that blowhardiness and trash talking he was known for just kind of melted away down the drain with those hairs from his chinny-chin-chin....!!!
