In reply to the discussion: 7 Saudis Set to Be Executed by Crucifixion and Firing Squad for Juvenile Jewelry Heist [View all]longship
(40,416 posts)I have never heard of crucifixion being used anywhere, not even Saudi Arabia.
I have heard of stonings, beheadings, and other horrible things. (The stonings seem to be aimed at women for some reason -- maybe they got caught driving or going to school or something, but I demure.)
But any claim to crucifixion in the 21st century has to stand a higher level of skepticism. The Sauds have given up beheadings, apparently because they have no more experts in the field of chopping off people's heads with a sword. And the last stoning I heard about was in Afghanistan -- a woman, for adultery... in public.
Crucifixion is a bad way to die. It can take days, and days. Forget the Biblical stories about a bad afternoon. I cannot believe this is true. And if it is true, I want to see it echoed beyond an AP wire.
I am skeptical.
