I'm not sure why people assume that it would be some sort of horrible tragedy for him. He's doing the right thing--both insisting that Assad must pay for violating the chem weapon ban, and insisting that Congress must participate in the decision as to how to proceed. If no airstrikes, then no airstrikes. History will remember him as doing what Reagan DIDN'T do in terms of chem warfare.
