No big stick, no concessions. And this was a pretty shocking concession. I think it indicates how weak Assad is, and how weak his alliances are.

Obama can go after him a piece at time, it doesn't have to be in one sitting. If Assad games this offer he will look more and more shady, and lose more credibility. At some point, he will just be done. I'd think it would be better if that did not happen as suddenly as it might've with the initially proposed strike.

This gives the UN a foothold, which could dislodge the stalemate.
