The study of economics is amoral. It attempts to describe through observation and predict through models. It does not attempt to discern what is "good" or "bad" or "what should be." It merely attempts to discern what is and predict what will be given this or that assumption.

It is the realm of politics to determine division of finite resources and the area of ethics to determine if the division is "good" or "bad."

I think people often conflate economics with politics or ethics and want to deny economic facts they feel cause things they disagree with.
