(9,512 posts)....i am opposed to compulsory voting unless certain conditions are in place:
-a complete revamping of election security, i.e., paper ballots counted in the public square, digital transfers of final tallies only,
verified after transfer, etc.
-removal of corporate funding from campaigning
-public funding of campaigns, serious limitation on funding from other sources, including political parties
-mandatory extensive debate among ALL candidates with allocation of free media time
-a "none of the above" option, along with the requirement of obtaining an absolute majority of eligible voters for victory, no plurality
-simple and easily understood federal law governs all voter registration and eligibility, no state-by-state intervention
-conscientious objector status allowed, and objectors still count as eligible voters for determining absolute majority
I'm sure there's some room for fine tuning this but that's pretty much the gist.
