(7,795 posts)As an aside, it's a fucking travesty that the NRA and its supporters have actively suppressed any collection of that data. But more importantly to this, it is completely possible to do exactly what they did. The only retorts possible are 1) it increases the variance in the study. Fucking no shit. And that would be reflected in the statistics methods they used if they did their job. It very much appears they did. And then there's 2) we're left thinking that *both* gun suicide *and* gun homicide are not at all related to rates of gun ownership. Good luck with that one.
It's fucking insane that we are expected to pretend that rates of firearm homicide and suicide have no relation the the number of guns in a particular region. It's akin to demanding that people believe rates of childhood lead exposure are completely unrelated to the number of buildings that contain lead paint. People are aren't just willfully ignorant. They're willfully fucking stupid. The result is obvious. It would be a fucking wonder if it somehow *wasn't* true.
