But there is another species of this that, for some reason, I was very subject to in my younger days. Older men seemed to think that they could convince me to be with them by strutting either their wealth or power in front of me, and persisting long after I had established that there was no way it was going to happen. I had a different career when I was younger, one that had plenty of my own power attached to it. So I could never understand why they thought their preening and boasting would change my mind about them.
As I write this, I see your point applies here too. I was a young woman with some power. Their persistent and uncomfortable advances were to put me in my place in relation to their power.
OK. I get it now.
