(48,958 posts)Most of Michigan doesn't care about Detroit. Back then people didn't see the city as the canary in the coal mine. Instead the city was seen as a drain on the state (re: those lazy people of color). Perhaps the racist/extremist views have eased since I lived there. Otherwise the rest of the state won't react, as they won't relate to Detroit. A holier than thou "otherism" (some people other than my own) being the read. Unless things have changed in the past two decades, outrage outside of Detroit proper will be minimal, and the recognition that this could hit your community next will be completely missed - as empathy has become a lost art when the process of dehumanization of people different than oneself has become so pervasive.
Very sad.
