29. "I've never seen anything like this."

I've heard that over and over this week.

You are the first to personally remember Big Thompson, as I do. I was a lifeguard at Boulder Reservoir that summer and every afternoon we would watch the thunderstorms come in. That Saturday there were three: one moving right along the Front Range from the south, another coming down from the north, and the third from the usual NW. They met over the mountains just NW of us; the sky was black as ink. We came to work the next morning--as usual bright and sunny with a blue sky--with news of the flash flood.

It was horrific. So is this, in a different way. That was an isolated thunderstorm over one drainage lasting for a few hours; this is a sub-tropical monsoon-type storm all along the Front Range, lasting for days.

It is unbelievable to me, I've never seen anything like it.

Stay safe.
