I suspect you know that. Russia does not have freedom of speech in the American sense -- neither does Canada, England, France, Germany, other EU countries and pretty much every other country in the world. But Russia is not the Soviet Union. There are open opposition newspapers and demonstrations on various topics opposing the government are common.
