(45,319 posts)a part of things than criticism of elected officials. I'm very used to that. I am not used to the fan club style applied to politics. Applied to Sci Fi classics sure. Just not to politics.
And I most certainly do not agree with you that the 'cheerleaders' (your term) are all that well meaning all the time. It is not any form of 'support for Obama' to spew venom at others, to send ugly PM's demanding others shut up, this is self indulgence played out using Obama as a façade for personal attacks.
For me, many of the folks who fallaciously claim to be 'The Supporters of Obama', the 60 or so folks here who claim to have elected him all on their own, are defined by their years of defending his opposition to marriage equality and their instant shift of gears to 'supporting' equality the moment Obama did so. For years these folks attacked equality supporters as 'wanting a pony for your poutrage' and promoted 'Civil Unions' as 'the only pragmatic solution'. Either civil unions or 'we just have to wait until the old bigots die off, and after the next election, then after the midterms, then after the primaries....'
That random, slippery 'support by command from above' crap is bothersome to me. Also the rude PMs, the exclusionary behavior in politics which is about inclusion and alliances, the name calling, the snark, none of that is my cup of tea.
