On the one hand, it would be nice to live in a world where you didn't need to be discerning as to food or restaurants, etc.
But on the other hand, the reality is that we do live in such a world. I always look at labels, I eschew fake chemical-ly ingredients, anything produced or processed in China (when discernable; if no indication is given, I just won't buy it, period), buy organic if possible.
It can be a time-consuming process, but there is no alternative. Kind of makes the traditional Italian passion for locally grown and handmade foodstuffs seem sensible.

i read that China processes our apple juice, we grow the apples, ship them to China for processing
