(10,893 posts)when I was a little kid and I heard about home-schooling for the first time while watching a South Park episode, I was all excited about it. I thought it would be cool to not have to leave my house and to never get into contact with any more bullying, but my parents refused to let me do it. At first, I thought they were just being mean, but I learned over the years that home-schooling isn't all it is cracked up to be. For starters, a home-schooled child isn't going to make nearly as many friends, or even have as much contact with people from different backgrounds. Secondly, it is a tall order to lay on one (or both parents) to teach their child all there is to know about math, science, and other basic subjects. Plus there won't be any electives to choose from; no P.E., no music classes, and no Spanish, or no extra-curricular sports in case if the child ever wanted to pursue a career as a pro athlete.
So yeah...I would not advise women quitting their jobs and taking up home-schooling.
