17. the Bible and the poor

Yesterday during the food stamp "debate" one of the Repubs said, "See that picture up there, that's Moses, he's the only one facing forward. He's telling us that work is holy." Then he went on about how we only need to read the Bible, that Adam was put out of Eden because he wouldn't work. I never did make the connection between Moses' picture and the garden of Eden. But the ranking member of the committee (she was great) said quietly. "Yes we need to read the Bible; taking care of the poor is mentioned over 200 times."
