(5,105 posts)14. It comes down to wanting to be better than someone.
The moneyed elites had slaves, while the rest of the (white) southerners labored and were treated definitely better than the slaves. But, human nature leads ppl to want to find someone they're "better than," and "at least I ain't a N*****r" has long been a comfort zone for rednecks and other victims of the robber barons from the 30s-today.
My ancestors were caught up in this BS, and laid down for the corporations, denouncing unions, watching others suffer while they got little more but at least ate. Cowards, unwilling to see reality.
Of course it's stupid, but they keep buying into it. Thanks, Fox noise!
