It's truly a mote, but your small mindedness is attached to a Syrian war oriented propaganda dump. A propaganda dump that follows after a defining stream of 1984ish propaganda dumps, all based on false information coupled with "2 minutes of hate" sessions governed by an on/off switch, as if the population were robots. I'm not impressed.

Putin isn't going to get any Democratic "high-fives" for his medieval edicts making life hell for LGBT people.
This is obviously a negative point of contrast with Obama who, while still "evolving", is definitely evolving in a positive direction. This is a separate and different issue than ME war.

But there're more international issues in the air than that, and in particular Putin's moves w.r.t. Syria, in face of a totally hyped for war USA R&D admin, were smart and their result is good.
There are plenty of other players in the world of war, all of whom are open to dirty and meaningless ad hominem attacks. The BRIC countries. The SCO countries. The OAS. NONE of these groups are welcoming of American Triumphalism, of American Exceptionalism, for obvious reasons.
