It is then, a most brave, and rather new world in which taxpayers legally subsidize the incompetence and malfeasance of bankers stealing from us... instilling an illusory confidence in the people that allows us an ethical convenience in focusing our morality on the potential negative consequences arising from an ambiguous and symbolic action rather than, well... you know-- actual theft.

I imagine the sobriquet of Fundy may be applied to the political as well as the religious when we place our faith on position of absolutism and dogma.

Theft does not necessarily equal theft... (see the works of Heraclitus and Parmenides for any necessary edification which seems to contradict your bumper-sticker)
