6. Its our human nature to filter out any evidence that doesn't support our beliefs

no matter what it is. This happens with all sorts of political issues, religious beliefs, values, etc. Its all a matter of perspective. We tend to seek out and share info that supports what we already believe as truth and are skeptical of anything that challenges it.

Republicans don't give a shit about people gaming the benefit systems since anyone who has even studied the issue knows that we already spend very very little on food stamps compared to the big 3: Defense, Social Security, Medicare. They know it won't lower their taxes or improve the budget hardly at all. They just want to cut welfare and food stamps because they believe people don't deserve it. Any evidence to the contrary like hard numbers showing how people buying food directly improves our GDP and creates jobs is ignored.

We would like to cut a lot of stuff that helps big corporations get profit because we believe they don't deserve it. The GOP can talk themselves hoarse about "job creators" and "private sector efficiency" and it won't make a lick of difference with many on our side.
