throughout the world now: christian against non-christian, muslim against non-muslim, muslim against christian, devout believer versus moderate believer etc.

It's all about division using theocratic propaganda. The propaganda can be out in the open via the MSM or more under the surface via social media. And by the results it seems that it's very easy to brainwash a substantial amount of impressionable people.
