(10,749 posts)I'm so sorry for your loss. That's awful.
Now for the platitudes. You will get past this instant in time. You won't forget, of course, and you'll always feel the loss, but the horror of this moment will pass, and you'll remember the good stuff.
One of our dogs was also killed by a car a few years ago. She was a sweetheart, but she had a wild streak. Of all of our dogs, she was the one who got quilled, who was sprayed by skunks, and who managed to get stuck digging in the ground after who know what. And getting her in at night was a challenge. One night, she was right at the door, which I opened, and she promptly turned tail and ran. Fun game. A while later - it was close to 1 in the morning, we heard a truck braking hard, then stopping, and then moving on. It could mean only one thing, and it did. That was 2 1/2 years ago. We miss her still, but the awfulness of the moment is past.
