It absolutely is sexist. You may not see it as such but maybe that's because you never really thought about it and dismiss it so casually.

When I went to college our professors had us read the textbooks out loud and substitute "she" for "he". It really taught me something about how everything is worded towards the male side of things. If you never have had anyone point it out to you like that I can see why you have your view on things, but I can guarantee you it is wrong.

Just like all those other things like "throw like a girl" and "man up". It implies that women aren't competent or brave, just men are. I didn't check your profile, but I'm going to guess you are male, and if you haven't grown up as a female and haven't been taught/shown this, then maybe you can allow yourself to absorb it now instead of being so dismissive.
